About Furs
Friends United with the Richmond Shelter (FURS), Inc. was founded in 2001 by a group of dog lovers determined to help the homeless population. Alarmed by the number of animals being euthanized, the FURS volunteers have focused their rescue efforts on dogs at Richmond Animal Care & Control, the euthanizing facility that serves the City of Richmond. To date, FURS has rescued, rehabilitated, and placed over 500 dogs who would otherwise have been put to death–in many cases simply for no other reason than lack of space at the city shelter.
Focusing on quality adoptions versus the quantity of dogs adopted, FURS carefully screens all applicants to ensure that our dogs are going to compatible homes where they will be loved and cared for the rest of their lives.
